A very wet morning just after 9am when i got a text from Mei-ling wondering about training on/off - she woke me up, but we'll let that pass. It was lashing rain in Dundrum so i took the executive decision to cancel training.
Quickly onto TEAMER.net to get out as quickly as possible the Cancellation notice and prevent people venturing out ... some probably wouldn't have bothered training, but for sure some would...
I went down to UCD to catch any stragglers who mightn't have their phones with them or changed their phones or whatever... thankfully i did as
there were FOUR new players waiting at the side of the cages wondering what had happened to Dundrum SO - bunch of pussies! Of course at this stage, the rain had stopped and it was looking like the decision was a little hasty!!
1. Player one supposedly came down at the end of last year ... young guy called Alex with his dad. Alex previously played with Cabinteely but training times didn't suit him any more and so is going to join us i hope. Alex is 17 and already registered with SO so we should be able to get him to join one team or another when we see how he shapes up on the pitch.
2. Three guys were there from what used to be known as Stillorgan. Long story here but i was talking to the Stillorgan manager recently to see about a suitable better team for Brian Power and he said he had some extra players who won't realistically get a game in his squad this season so they might consider coming along to us and playing with us. So maybe these guys will or won't be seen again on a Sunday morning - and maybe they will want to play competitively with us?
Please keep an eye out for them or others from Stillorgan over the coming weeks. One of the lad's Dad used to play football with me many moons ago so we might even get him down as a coach some session in the future as well .
Bobby + Cian + Jack were the only players who didn't heed/get their teamer message. So i now know where Bobby lives. Fair play to him, he was up at 7.30am on his own to get a Luas into town and then a bus out to UCD. He gets there long before 10am - what dedication!!
