Small report from the Area Meeting held on 2nd October.
General: a very low turnout - only about 10 people all told i reckon and a number of them were actual SO staff. They did wonder why ... my own thought is that we have more in common with the ongoing Football-related matters (such as Colm at the League Formation meeting) rather than with other clubs in the general south county Dublin area.
There wasn't too much of interest / merit at the meeting ... the normal discussion about the pain in the a** that the Athlete Membership form is for everyone (poor Joe D) but they believe the process is getting better ?
They had a presentation about a new fund-raising initiative coming out soon which is to collect people's old coins (particularly pounds & pence). There is official packs available which they can send out to interested people to publicize etc. Some 40% of money raised by a club will actually find its way to the club .... 60% to SO-Ireland ... that is all after the 3rd party running the show get their slice.
More discussion than any other item arose when they presented a wee bit about a new sport they are trying to launch called "FLOORBALL' which is a sort of indoor hockey i understand. I couldn't believe the general interest and amount of questions from the floor about the sport especially given no one is likely to do anything with such information anyways ;-)
Other items of note :
An Athlete's Forum to be held in Red Cow on 17th November where all are invited to attend.
Region is looking to set up a Families Committee as well and looking for family members to volunteer to get involved etc.
Next meeting at end of January
